News: Gov’t To Compensate Land Owners Affected By ECRL Project

Jun 18, 2019

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has assured private land owners that they would be duly compensated in the event their property is acquired by the government to make way for the East Coast Rail (ECRL) project.

However, the government would decide on land acquisition issues once the mega project’s alignment has been finalised this year, reported Bernama.

“I do not want any issue or speculation on the land acquisition so that this development project can be done smoothly,” he said at the Aidilfitri celebration for the Chennah state constituency.

“We have not decided how much land is needed or where the stations will be built but there is definitely one station in the Jelebu district.”

He revealed that the government would seek feedback from stakeholders by holding public information sessions, once the rail’s alignment is finalised.

Loke is confident that the mega project would help attract investors to develop Jelebu’s industrial area and provide more employment opportunities for the locals.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced on 12 April that the ECRL project will resume at a reduced cost following the signing of a supplementary agreement between China Communications Construction Company Ltd and Malaysia Rail Link.

The construction cost for Phases 1 and 2 of the project was lowered to RM44 billion, down RM21.5 billion from its RM65.5 billion original cost.
